Beach Morning

Welcome to Developing the Whole Child!

I would like to welcome you all to our page!

Background: I had been a teacher for 7 years before I had my daughter and decided to stay at home with her.  I have completed my Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Early Years Education (pre-school to grade 3) and Teaching English as a Second Language.  I have taught mostly Kindergarten and Grade 1 students and am extremely passionate about being a life long learner.

My Philosophy: I believe that every child learns in different ways and at different rates and that it is important to encourage a child’s emotional, social, language, cognitive and physical development.  Within these areas, children also need to understand the importance of eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise.

I feel that no one area of development is more important than the other, thus I try to encourage the development of the whole child by providing my daughter with diverse learning experiences.

Our Activities: Day to day, we go on a variety of outings, play outdoors and do planned activities.  Some planned activities are oldies that have been tried and tested by other moms and others are created by us.  I ensure that the activities we do together are adapted to R’s developmental level, but offer suggestions for extending the activities for older kids.

Share: We love to get suggestions and questions!  Leave your idea suggestions or ask us about why we do what we do.  We are always excited to learn from others and share our knowledge!

  5. Hello!
I’m a freelancer for the women’s website SheKnows.com, and I’m putting together a piece about great games for backyard barbecues. I ran across your idea for the pool noodle obstacle course and I’d love to feature it in my article. I’d include one image, a link back to your blog, and photo credits. Please let me know if you’re not OK with this. 🙂 maryk dot mccoy at gmail dot com
